2008 SEASON REVIEW

In 2008 PAL Rallying competed on 4 events together, Here is a short review of each event.

Opposite Lock Rally - Manby Airfield, Saturday 19th July 2008 - This was the first rally for Liam as a driver and the first rally in the newly purchased car. After a wrong turn Pete and Liam just managed to get upto Manby for the Friday night scruitineering. Luckly the car sailed through and waited for saturday morning. The next morning with the help of Andy Smith and Kev Hutchinson the car was prepped ready for SS1. The first couple of stages went without any major hitch and soon Liam's pace improved. In the afternoon Liam's confidence improved further even resulting in some tail happy moments. Eventually they managed to finish their first rally together.

Centenary Rally - Twyford Woods, Sunday 10th August 2008 - Brimming with confidence Pete and Liam where ready for their next challenge, Twyford woods. After deciding on an odd tyre choice they battled through the first 4 stages of the day. Even with tank slapping moment, an overshoot up a bank and a small collision with a tree, the pair manged to end up mid class looking for a good result. Come the end of service disaster struck and the car would not start. After going OTL the fault was traced to an electrical item, which was temporarily fixed so that they could get out on the last two stages.

Harold Palin Memorial Stages - Manby Airfield, Saturday 4th October 2008 - After a two month break (in which time Pete had competed on the Richard Burns Memorial Rally with John). After two stages it wasnt looking good, a big contact with a tractor tyre, a major off up the "water splash" bank, a spin and a bent trackrod end the pair was looking like it would be another DNF. But after a quick talking to and slap around Liam was put back into the car to try again. This went alot better, he was sent out with a goal for each stage which resulted in some improved driving and a big confidence improver for Liam.

RalliTrak Premier Rally - Sherwood Forest, Sunday 26th October 2008 - This was the last event of the year for Pete And Liam, and it was also Liam's first drive in the woods. After a small delay then a cautious start soon saw the pace improve. After some tail happy corners and a sensible drive, their first forest outing together was a success. This finish also resulted in a good result in the Dukeries Motor Club Rally Championship.

At the end of the 2008 season Pete managed to claim 2nd overall Co-driver in the Dukeries Motor Club Rally Championship, missing out on 1st place by only 3 points. While Liam managed to clinch 1st driver in Class One and 5th overall driver in the Dukeries Motor Club Rally Championship.

We would like to thank everybody that made these achievements possible.
