PAL Rallying consists of a variety of people. The "in car" crew, (the driver and co driver) are Liam and Pete.
Also there is the service crew of Andy, John and Ralph, all of whom have had links with motorsport for many years.
ABOUT US - PETE AND LIAM
PETER BUTLER - (pictured left after the Wyedean Rally in 2009), was born in 1962. He got interested in rallying after spectating on rallies within the Nottinghamshire area in the 80's and 90's. Peter decided to join the Dukeries Motor club with Liam to aid his involvement in Rallying. After marshalling for a number of months under the DMC banner he got the oppertunity to co-drive on the Dukeries Rally in 2008. This was with John Stevens in a class B11 Mark 2 Escort. After battling through 10 stages they managed to finish 3rd in class beating 4th by 44 seconds.
Since then Pete has co-driven with Liam, John and Dave Welch, some of his best events including the Richard Burns Memorial Rally on each of its three annual runnings, plus five forest events with Liam as part of PAL Rallying in the BTRDA championship in 2009. Also in 2009 Pete competed with John Stevens in the Mark 2 Escort, winning several trophies, including 1st in class co-driver in the East Midlands Championship, whilst he and Liam refurbished the Vauxhall Nova ready for the 2010 season, after completing their BTRDA Rally First Challenge events in 2009.
First aim for 2010 is to get the Nova built and competing on rallies asap. Then to win a class award with Liam in his new car, and maybe a good result in the East Midlands Championship, which we could acheive with consistancy. Also to retain the Dukeries Motor Club Winning Co-Drivers award in the clubs rally championship. A lot of aim's for this year, it will be interesting to see how many we can acheive by the end of the year.
LIAM BUTLER - (pictured here with Malcolm Wilson), was born in 1988. He got interested in rallying after spectating on his local event (Dukeries Rally) since 2006 with father Pete. The both of them decided to join the Dukeries Motor club to get more involved. After also marshalling under the DMC banner Liam managed to get funds saved up, before embarking on a 300 mile round trip to pick up his first and current rally car.
Liam has competed on several events since June 2008. The first of these was as a co-driver for Kev Hutchinson on The Rainworth Skoda Dukeries Rally. In which they came 1st in class 1.4c with a 1300 Vauxhall Astra, (beating 2nd in class by over 20 seconds) and gaining a top 10 BTRDA 1400s. Since then Liam has competed on Clubman events in the Midlands with the aim of gaining the experience needed to hopefully be competitive in 2009.
Liam's rallying inspiritrations are Mark Higgins and Kris Meeke. This is due to how Kris managed to go from to winning a competition in MN to where he is now! And Mark Higgins because of his driving style, down to earth approach to rallying and he's the driver Liam first followed when he got interested in rallying (this was through BRC dvd's and reading the Motorsport News). In British rallying Liam looks at Justin Lawson, Martyn Lewis (RIP), Matt Edwards and Julian Wilkes for inspiriation due to how they manage to drive their 1400s so well !!
Out of rallying Liam's inspiritions and roll models are, as most young lads his dad. This is mainly because of all the help that he gives Liam and his father's approach to most things in life.
In 2009 Liam competed in the BTRDA Rally First Challenge, which allowed him to drive on some of the best stages in the country and gave a lot of experience for the future, in the new (and much faster !) Vauxhall Nova.
